Plant Bio

Asplenium nidus

Bird's Nest Fern is often found growing on tree limbs and other structures from Southeast Asia to Africa, as well as in homes across the world. Loved as a houseplant for being one of the easier ferns to grow indoors, it's also distinctive with its long, thick fronds that radiate out from the center of the plant.

Its thick, almost leathery fronds, make Bird's Nest Fern more drought tolerant than your average fern. It tolerates low light, but truly thrives in a bright spot (within 3 to 4 feet of a large, unobstructed east- or west-facing window). It can be supplemented – or grow entirely – under artificial lights, as well. Water as the top quarter to half or so of the potting mix dries to the touch, provide average household temperatures, and average to above-average relative humidity levels (above 40 percent is optimal).

Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Additionally, exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
